The space above a sofa can bring a living room together, but choosing artwork involves more than finding colours you like. Width, shape and placement all affect how the piece feels in the room.
A long horizontal artwork is one option for connecting the seating area without arranging several smaller pictures.
Start with the width of your sofa
Measure the sofa first, then consider the wall around it. As a styling starting point, try artwork around two-thirds to three-quarters of the sofa’s width. This isn’t a strict rule, but it can help you avoid choosing a piece that feels lost above the furniture.
Mark the artwork’s dimensions on the wall with low-tack tape, testing it on an inconspicuous spot first. Step back and look from the doorway and your usual seat before deciding.

Consider height as well as width
A panoramic piece can stretch across the seating area while leaving breathing room above and below. Check both dimensions carefully: a 150 × 50 cm artwork has a different presence from a taller piece of the same width.
Éire Bloom Studio’s horizontal sizes include 60 × 20, 90 × 30, 120 × 40 and 150 × 50 cm. Check the individual listing for available options.
Choose the feeling you want
Think about how you want the room to feel before matching individual colours. Landscapes can introduce a sense of openness, botanical artwork can echo natural elements, and an abstract design can create a stronger focal point.
Start with Horizontal Prints, then explore Inspired by Ireland, Picturesque, In Bloom or Freeform according to your taste.
Connect the artwork to the room
The artwork doesn’t need to match every cushion or curtain. Repeating one or two colours from the room can be enough to make it feel connected, while contrasting colours can help it stand out.

Compare framed and stretched canvas
A floating frame creates a defined border around the artwork. Stretched canvas offers an unframed look with the canvas edges visible. These are separate product listings at Éire Bloom Studio, so check that you’re selecting your preferred format.

Before choosing, compare the measurements, view the room mock-ups and picture the artwork from different points in your own space.
